A. National Institute of Vedic Sciences Trust Regd., is an Unit of Sri Sripadaraja Mutt, Narasimhatheertha Mulbagal, Kolar District, Karnataka State. An institute propagating the preaching in Vedas, Upanishats and Haridasa Sahitya through conducting regular workshops and conferences. Also a research centre conducting research in Vedic Sciences, Humanities, Yoga, Ayurveda and Dasasahitya.

A ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION AS GUIDE
Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors, Reader, Senior lecturers/teachers/Senior Scientists/ Vidwans working in the University /colleges/traditional Sanskrit Vidyapeetas / subject matter expert of well established Research & Development organisations are eligible to be recognized as Ph.D. Guides. The guide shall have a Ph.D. in that subject and involved in the research.
Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Readers, Senior lecturers/ teachers / Senior Scientists / Vidwans working in the University/college/traditional Sanskrit Vidyapeethas / Gurukulas/ well established research and development organisations not having M.Phil. / Ph.D. degree are also eligible to be recognized as M.Phil. Guides if they have minimum five years of teaching / research experience in the relevant subject field.

A. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR A CANDIDATE
Any candidate who satisfies the following conditions is eligible to seek registration for M.Phil., in the Institute upon application for provisional registration after going through these Regulations and Guidelines for M.Phil., which shall be supplied along with the application.
The candidate shall have Masters Degree in Sanskritam / Philosophy / Arts / Literature / Science / Engineering / Medical etc of any University recognized by UGC or an equivalent Masters in Philosophy degree of foreign University, with a minimum of 55% marks. Having a Master in Philosophy Degree/percentage of marks may be relaxed if they have worked and have enough experience in their chosen field of Ph.D research.
Q. Is there entrance test for the M.Phil, MS. Integrated Ph.D., Ph.D., and D.Litt. / D.Sc. Courses
A. Entrance Test and Interview: Admission to M.Phil., shall be through an Entrance Test and interview. (Senior people or Vidwans who want to do M.Phil and have adequate knowledge in the field are exempted at the discretion of the Board of Studies from entrance test. They have to pass the interview to be eligible for M.Phil).
Q. Can a student who is already under one guide outside the institute can he/she continue under the same guide.
A. If any student has already been studying under a guide he/she shall continue with the same guide on obtaining written permission from the Board of Studies. Such guides shall register themselves with the Research Centre. The co-guide may be from outside the Research Centre also.
Q. For how many years the Regristration for M.Phil, MS. Integrated Ph.D., Ph.D., and D.Litt. / D.Sc. Courses is valid.
A. The M.Phil. Registration is valid for Three years only from the date of Provisional Registration.
Q. What is the syllabus and medium of instructions for M.Phil, MS. Integrated Ph.D., Ph.D., and D.Litt. / D.Sc. Courses
A. Syllabus for M.Phil in Sanskrit-Vedic Science:
Vedic Science is offered as an inter-disciplinary subject consisting Sanskrit and Scientific aspects.
(a) Research Methodology subject paper is mandatory for all the M.Phil / MS. Integrated Ph.D. / Ph.D Courses for 100 marks.
(b) Options: M.Phil Vedic Science students are allowed to choose their subject as per their interest for Research work for 100 marks.
(c) Medium of Instruction: Medium of Instruction: Candidates who apply for M.Phil in Kannada-Dasa Sahitya can opt any one of the medium of instruction in Kannda, Sanskrit or English. Any Quotation of Sanskrit should be quoted in Sanskrit only.
6.9 Syllabus for M.Phil in Kannada (Dasa Sahitya):
(a) Those applying for M.Phil in Kannada (Dasa Sahitya) shall select their topic as per their interest for Research Work for 100 marks.
(b) Comparative study of Dasa Sahitya with Veda, Purana, Upanishaths etc will be covered under Master in Philosophy in Kannada (Dasa Sahitya). The students can choose their project work from the birth of Dasa Sahitya to 21st Century Dasas including comparative study of Dasa Sahitya with Veda, Upanishath, etc. individual Dasa and their works, its relevance in present day world.
(c) Medium of Instruction:
M.Phil, MS. Integrated Ph.D., Ph.D., and D.Litt. / D.Sc. Courses in Kannada-Dasa Sahitya can opt any one of the medium of instruction in Kannada, Sanskrit or English. Any Quotation of Sanskrit should be quoted in Sanskrit only.
Q. Can a candidate opt for change of title / guide.
A. CHANGE OF TITLE / GUIDE
A candidate desiring to change the title of the Thesis shall apply to the Institute with 2 copies of revised Synopsis and changed Title through the Guide after paying the prescribed fee.
The University shall seek the opinion of the BOS for the change of title. Such a change can be permitted anytime before the Pre-thesis Submission Colloquium.
If a candidate decides to change the topic of research, his / her regular registration stands canceled, and the candidate has to undergo the Regular Registration process again and may apply for pre-submission colloquium only after a period of one year from the date of registration of change.
Generally, change of Guide is not permissible. It may be permitted only under exceptional circumstances such as death /disability / other medical conditions of the Guide or legal actions on the Guide by the administration. However, if there is any written complaint about conflict between the Guide and the candidate, the Institute shall refer the matter to the BOS for final decision.
Q. Will there be via-voce examination.
A. (a) After receipt of three positive reports from the examiners, open Viva-Voce examination shall be conducted by the Institute in the presence of the members of the BOS, research guide, members of the concerned Faculty, research scholars and students by giving wide publicity.
(b) If the candidate desires, the viva-voce examination may be held via video conferencing after payment of necessary additional fees prescribed by the Institute.
(c) The M.Phil. degree would be awarded if three examiners give positive reports and the candidate successfully completes viva voce examination.
Q. Is there libratory facilities at NIVS
A. If the project work needs any experimentation in laboratories such experimentation shall be carried out by scholars at their own cost.
